Peach Fuzz: Pantone Colour of the Year 2024

Dec 21, 2023

Pantone has announced their 2024 colour of the year, and it is peachy-sweet. A soft blend of pink and orange, this muted neutral is timid without being shy, and bold without being gaudy.

It’s velvet. It’s gentle. It’s warm. With its airiness and softness, it manages to embody a global collective movement towards a future focused on self-care and connection. Poetic and nostalgic, the colour of the year has been named: Pantone 13-1023 Peach Fuzz.

The importance of the Pantone Colour of the Year.

Every year since 1999, Pantone has announced a statement colour that aims to address cultural movements and current events across the globe. The colour of the year fuses both culture and colour to express worldwide reflections on the year past and offer a focal point for the year ahead.

To choose the tone of the year, colour anthropologists collaborate to review all that’s happening in the real world and choose a colour to communicate it.

There is power in colour. Not only does this colour of the year reflect recent history, but it also sets a precedent for the years ahead. Most years, Pantone’s chosen hue has become iconic in the world of fashion, textiles, interior design, and even technology. Collaborating with brands like Ruggable, Motorola, and Polaroid, it’s evident how Peach Fuzz seamlessly integrates into products people use daily.

Colour can tell a story about what’s happening in the world. Looking back at previous years' colours, we can see how the chosen hues synthesised the modern world at the time.

The 2023 Viva Magenta conveyed a dynamic craving for boldness and confidence, especially as the internet had so powerfully brought people together throughout the pandemic. Viva Magenta reflected society’s willingness to try new things while upholding a sense of compassion.

The 2020 Classic Blue conveyed elegance and simplicity, reflecting a global desire for stability. Classic Blue has the ability to focus people and give them space to recalibrate their thoughts. It fosters resilience. Although Pantone announced this colour before the pandemic began, parts of their programme were extremely relevant all year long.

Pantone’s chosen colour of the year is important in trends moving forward. But it is more a mission to prove that colour is a language of its own, with the power to say more than words can.

What does peach fuzz reflect?

Peach Fuzz, the chosen colour for 2024, was carefully decided by a group of global colour experts. After reflecting on fashion trends, lifestyles, the entertainment industry, and even socio-economic conditions, the experts landed on Peach Fuzz. The soothing colour is both gentle and warm while paying homage to a familiar, almost vintage, feeling.

2023 has been a trying year for many of us. As we exit the era of a pandemic and enter another epidemic of a global financial crisis, there has never been a time when connection mattered more. As humans, we thrive on nurture, compassion and peace. We are taking time to step back from the busyness that swallows us up and learning how to focus on health, well-being, and community. That’s what Peach Fuzz embodies: it’s a hue that feels like a warm, caring embrace. It invites togetherness: compassion that is sweet and reassuring - something that we have been missing.

The Vice President of Pantone, Laurie Pressman, describes Peach Fuzz as a cocoon. Warm and safe, it has the ability to transport us back to a time that felt easier. Yet it has a contemporary modernity about it, inspiring a new softness ahead of us.

At Saxen, the mission of Peach Fuzz feels familiar. We believe in being a present force with a future-focused drive, striving for better days ahead. From our Carbon Reduction Plan that aims to see us carbon neutral by 2050 to our careful eye for evidence-based design developed to promote employee well-being and clarity, Saxen stands by everything Peach Fuzz represents. We are eager to see how Peach Fuzz finds its place in the world and inspires the year ahead.
